DEFY WRESTLING RETURNS TO TACOMA’S TEMPLE THEATER

After last month’s successful debut in Tacoma, DEFY Wrestling makes its return to the City of Destiny. Thursday, August 3rd to the Temple Theater Grand Plaza Ballroom, at the Landmark Convention Center, 47 St Helens Ave, Tacoma WA 98402.

DEFY Wrestling’s return marks the start of a partnership with Mexico’s hottest promotion The Crash Lucha Libre. Legendary star of Mexico, and former WCW wrestler Konnan said, “working together with DEFY is a win-win for fans and the wrestlers!” This partnership will see the appearance of exciting international stars intent to make their mark on wrestling in the northwest. Included is the one and only Jack Evans, who dubs himself the “Prince of Parkland.”

Evans born in Tacoma Washington, who was raised in Parkland left the northwest to become a major international star based out of Mexico and stars in the highly acclaimed Lucha Underground television show. This will be Evans first match in Tacoma in well over 10 years. He will be pitted against 2004 Olympian, the powerhouse Mr. Athletic Jeff Cobb!

Possibly the night's most anticipated match (and the main event) will see the newly crowned DEFY Champion, “King of Swerve” Shane Strickland against Lio Rush. A rematch between the men who in April had what many longtime fans called the best professional wrestling match they’ve ever seen live! Rush will attempt to capture the DEFY Championship and take it with him. This could be Lio Rush’s last independent match in the Northwest as he just signed a contract to compete with Vince McMahon’s World Wrestling Entertainment’s NXT brand

August 3rd will see the debut of Ring of Honor star, Flip Gordon. Gordon who has made a huge impression on the wrestling world will be taking on “the Puerto Rican Sensation” Mike Santiago. Also competing is Ave Rex and Sonico, Los Sexi Mexi’s. The Luchadores will compete with the tandem of Big Jack and Carl Cunningham.

Last month the women of DEFY had one of the most amazing matches of the evening. Hot off a tour of Japan, international star Cat Power will be making her DEFY Wrestling debut. Many other great local and international stars will be gracing the ring at the Temple Theater, you will not want to miss it!

The host and ring announcer for the evening will be 99.9 KISW’s Kevin Diers (Filling in for Steve Migs)!

DEFY at the Temple Theater is open to all ages event and will include a meet and greet with the wrestlers prior to the matches. Group rate tickets and sponsorship opportunities are also available.

LISTEN - Davey Richards / MIGS vs TWOW

On this week's MIGS VS The World Of Wrestling - Migs sits down with current CZW World Champion and DEFY Championship 8XGP contender Davey Richards.

More from the MigsBlog

I just started doing a wrestling podcast called “Migs Vs. The World Of Wrestling”, and big thanks to everyone that has checked it out so far.
The podcast is not a show where I critique the wrestling product…I don’t like crapping on wrestling (like some wrestling fans and wrestling podcasts do)…I watch wrestling because I find great entertainment in it.  Do I think it’s always good?  Of course not, but I definitely enjoy the majority of it!
What I am doing on the podcast is giving listeners a chance to learn about the men and women that put their safety on the line…all so that we can be entertained.  Wrestlers are some of the most interesting people that I have met…they all have insane stories behind their journey in becoming a professional wrestler.
There is one guy that I had at the top of my wish list to chat with…and that is Othello Washington’s own, CZW Champion -- Davey Richards.
Davey is the epitome of interesting…both inside and outside the squared circle.
Not only is Davey killing it in Impact Wrestling (his “Lone Wolf” character is so bad ass), but he going to be here for Defy 4 at Tacoma’s Temple Theater on 6/29…hopefully he will be at Defy 5 as well on the next night at Washington Hall in Seattle.  I’ll be the ring announcer, and you can get more info and tix at DefyWrestling.com.
When I say that Davey is interesting outside the ring….
-- He is not only a wrestler, but is also a paramedic.
-- He is a pre-med student
-- He is studying Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu
-- Him and his wife, Angelina Love, just had a baby boy.
Check out our chat, as we talk about all of this…plus his love for the Seattle music scene, and he also explains why he has no intentions of wanting to wrestle in the WWE.

LISTEN - DEFY3 SWERVE CITY Playlist by KEVIN DIERS

DEFY backstage correspondent and KISW 99.9 FM's KEVIN DIERS delivers another crushing Mixtape - this time for DEFY3.

" When you walk into Washington Hall, grab a drink and find your seat, the energy in the room is electric. There is a-lot of anticipation in the air and the key to my selections for the Defy3 playlist was to choose the most high octane, fast, and intense music to get everyone pumped up - a lot of which happens to be metal.

There are a couple of songs in here that don't EXACTLY fit that definition...specifically the Deftones and Soundgarden tracks. I had been listening to a ton of Chris Cornell's music that week (R.I.P.) and I felt it's important to keep his art fresh in our minds.

As far as the Deftones song....I mean, it's called SWERVE CITY! How couldn't I put it on there? Along with making a soundtrack for Defy3, this playlist also serves as badass motivation at the gym."

The Crash Lucha Libre & Defy Wrestling enter working relationship.

We are proud to announce our partnership with The Crash Lucha Libre promotion from Tijuana Mexico.  Established in 2012 The Crash is the fastest growing, and most exciting Lucha Libre company in the world. It features some of the biggest names in Lucha Libre like Rey Mysterio and Blue Demon Jr along with today’s best in ring competitors from around the globe!

Defy Wrestling, based out of Seattle Washington will be bringing The Crash Lucha Libre events to the Pacific Northwest. In addition, there is a talent exchange agreement between the two companies. You will see some of the northwest’s hottest prospects competing in Mexico, and some of Mexico’s brightest stars competing in the Northwest.

Legendary wrestler, and co-owner of The Crash promotion, Konnan said,

“Working together with Defy is a win-win for the fans and the wrestlers. As both fan bases get to see each promotions talent. Our goal is for independent promotions to start working with, instead of against each other and take advantage of the cross-pollination that is prevalent in the indie scene. Fans win we all win, we look forward to working with Defy!”

Defy Wrestling will be announcing the dates to The Crash events in Washington next week! www.defywrestling.com - www.thecrash.mx
